Happy Swalloween!

It has been an emotional and frustrating weekend. Emma's baptism was scheduled for Saturday, and we had family flying in on Thursday from California - and more family coming from down South on Saturday. Spencer had a nasty cough starting last Tuesday and by Thursday morning he had a fever. So we took him to the doctor, thinking we could get him on antibiotics so he'd be good for the baptism on Saturday. Lo and behold - the swine flu. He tested positive for H1N1a. So our family from California ended up staying elsewhere, and we figured we'd see them maybe Sunday or Monday instead. I thought I was going to die. Trying to figure out how to get Spencer to the baptism and take him home right after, while the rest of our family and friends chowed down at the church. Turns out my worries were unnecessary as Emma's fever came on Friday, and then we knew the baptism would have to be rescheduled. She was broken-hearted and after many tears and lots of palliation (including a happy meal, halloween sugar cookies, chocolate covered strawberries, and watching the Corpse Bride as a family), she finally decided it would be okay to have it in a couple weeks.

I decided every cloud has a silver lining. Because the baptism was postponed, we were able to actually celebrate Halloween. We made sugar cookies, we all dressed up (except for Sean), and we had an in-house trick or treat. Sean went to the basement with his bowl of candy, and I went upstairs to the bedrooms with mine. The kids would knock on one door and trick or treat and then go to the other floor and do the same. It was actually pretty fun. Then Sean and I watched a movie and played Liverpool.

I feel so blessed to have so much support from friends and family. My in-laws have been bringing dinner every night, and helped convince Emma to be baptized in a couple weeks by promising to fly back. Jeannie brought over a ton of food, including all my favorite naughties, like Coke Zero w/grenadine & Funyuns, and a bunch of other stuff. Her kids got money out of their piggy banks to buy my kids a little something from the dollar store.

Sarah came over in her Halloween garb and brought us a bouquet of get well soon balloons, a 12-pack of Diet Dr. Pepper, more grenadine, a warm apple pie and ice cream, and a treat bag for each of the kids. My neighbor Stephanie brought over treat bags for the kids and a card and some cookies for Emma since she missed her baptism. Danielle offered to bring me dinner or stop by Maverick and get drinks. And the Hills, the Squires, and the Mineers all stopped by our fence on their way to trunk-or-treat to show us their costumes.

I just feel so loved and so blessed to have such great people in our life.

So here are some pics of our Swalloween!

Fun costumes...so sorry to hear about all your sicknesses. I love that everyone got dressed up still. I would have been more of a party pooper. Your kids are lucky to have you as parents.
